Sorèze |
At the foot of the Montagne Noire and very close to the St-Férréol lake, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this characterful village grew up around its famous Benedictine abbey school.
During the reign of Louis XVI it became one of the realm’s twelve royal military schools and an important centre of learning under the orders and instructions of Père Lacordaire. |

Royal Abbey School |
Built in 754 by Pépion d'Aquitaine, Sorèze Abbey survived the centuries and became the Abbey School in 1682. Louis XVI promoted it to the rank of Royal Abbey School in 1776 and at the time it attracted students from all over the world. The Abbey School closed in 1991 but has now reopened as a hotel and cultural centre.
