It could be the twin sister of Cordes-sur-Ciel. Indeed, the bastide of Castelnau de Montmiral was founded in the same year, 1222 and by the very same Count of Toulouse, Raymond VII. But its splendours and its history are all its own.
The medieval citadel of Lautrec lies fifteen kilometres from Castres and thirty kilometres from Albi in the heart of the Tarn. The site of Lautrec was inhabited by the Celts and the Romans but really developed in the Middle Ages.
Situated within a loop of the Cérou river, about twenty kilometres from Albi, the village de Monestiés has an architecture and a history that blend perfectly into the surrounding countryside.
Puycelsi overlooks the valley of the Vère and the majestic national forest of La Grésigne. It has managed to resist the ravages of time and the Albigensian crusade and has undergone a magnificent renaissance to delight visitors.
