In the heart of the Lot valley, in the north of Aveyron, hidden away by its magnificent natural surroundings, the village of Conques is one of the major stages on the Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route and one of the great centres of Christianity in Europe.

There is nothing artificial in Sauveterre de Rouergue; it has maintained intact its personality as a typical bastide but with unique architecture. For pilgrims arriving from the high plateaux of the Aubrac, the view over the old town of Saint Côme d'Olt has remained unchanged for several centuries. You enter the village through the Théron Gate and, once you have passed through, a wonderful network of narrow streets is revealed with astonishing buildings, preserved for 600 years.
Beside the Lot, at the foot of the Aubrac mountains, stands the village of Sainte-Eulalie d’Olt. It was built around an earlier château but it was around the second château built on the site in the 15th century that the village was to grow.
Above the confluence of the Tarn and the Alrance, the fortress of Brousse overlooks one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
